Moms Helping Moms

I few days ago, I came across a really friendly site called Internet Based Moms. It's not a design site—seemed to me that most of the moms are running e-commerce sites from home and are fairly new to the web. But the forums are welcoming and helpful, and everyone seems very supportive. For work-at-home moms, we have double reason to need that support. Not only can our jobs isolate us, but having kids can severely cut down on your ability to social and interact with other grownups.

I spent most of my time on the Promoting & Developing Your Online Business Forum, but I was impressed with the degree of knowledge and the willingness to share it. I found an interesting tidbit on using a 301 redirect to avoid losing your rankings when you move a page. Maybe it's common knowledge, but I hadn't heard that one before. They even spell out how to create an .htaccess file, which is unusually considerate of beginners (I remember being extremely frustrated over that at one time).

It's definitely worth a look for moms who are working the web from home.

According to author Ray Oldenburg, everybody needs a third place (besides home [1] and workplace [2]). In lieu of the local colesium, neighborhood bar or corner store, the Internet has become the third place for many people in America—a virtual hangout where conversation flourishes, friendships are made and citizens meet. Often in our pajamas.

I've been hanging out here since 1996, building web sites, making friends, and learning. This blog is my small contribution to the lively, never-ending dialogue.

Thanks for stopping by.
